Episode 24: Return of Who Moved My Birkin? Podcast

Conversations with friends are definitely my favourite type of conversations. For the return episode, my dear friend Sarah sat down with me and interviewed me regarding my absence from the podcast. It was a conversation that we have had privately and as mentioned in the episode, the pivotal moment was in Amsterdam.

Sarah and I have taken many trips this year, all great fun full of deep, heart to heart conversations and laughter because we really do crack each other up. Our last trip was a two day trip to Amsterdam, we had agreed while we were in Lanzarote that the 45 minute flight was the perfect flight and we would go and spend a night there.

We arrived in Amsterdam at 9am and made our way to Breakfast Club somewhere near a tram stop and a canal. We both ordered chicken and waffles and a coke (yes, it was early but time does not exist on holiday so we had a coke before 12!) As we tucked into our lukewarm chicken and waffles, Sarah began to ‘read me for filth.’ She expressed how much she loved the podcast and saw the space where it belonged in an industry that has now been filled by many other podcasts. Who Moved My Birkin? is different, it is a podcast that only speaks to black women, the audience is larger and bigger than black women because black women’s stories are not for us to gate keep but to be heard; that’s what the platform is for.

In this episode I discuss why I started the podcast, because we are often overlooked and this is a massive spotlight shone on black women to show the world that we are amazing and we are more than any stereotype that has been said about us.
